Almost there...

Well, there are only 5 days left until Election Day. I will be glad when Tuesday arrives and hopefully can start working to rebuild the Jordan School District. If you haven't taken advantage of Early Voting or voting by mail, please remember to vote on November 2nd and tell your friends and family to vote also (and while they are voting, to vote for Nathan Gedge for Jordan School Board).

We had a great turnout last Saturday for our final Walk the Precinct, with 15 volunteers from family, co-workers, friends, fellow JSD Board candidates and the JEA. We passed out over 2,000 fliers in the rain - this will go a long way in helping us achieve victory next week.

We'll be doing Honk and Waves Saturday, Monday and Tuesday - if you'd like to help out, please give me a call or shoot me an e-mail.

Thanks... on to victory. NG

Less than 3 weeks to go

The campaign is almost over. Only 19 days until the polls close and we'll learn if I will be able to help usher in change in the Jordan School District or if there will be more of the same for another 4 years.

The last month has been exciting (so busy in fact, that I've forgotten to post on this Blog!). The new green signs are out - lining 7000 South and 3200 West (now jokingly referred to on Facebook as Gedge Lane and Gedge Boulevard). We - all of our volunteers - have handed out over 2,000 fliers saving us nearly $1,000 in postage by getting the word out.

With the race nearly done, all of our remaining efforts will be used to GOTV (Get Out The Vote), so if you would like to help stamp postcards, make phone calls, hand out fliers and post the remaining signs that we have, please let me know.

There will be a Meet the Candidate night at Oquirrh Elementary School next Thursday, October 21 at 6:00 pm. The School Board race is the only contest for our area so 2 hours solely to Jordan SD issues. We hope to see you there.

The Events of September 14th

As you have heard from the Salt Lake Tribune or from KSL, at last night's school board meeting it was announced that Dr. Barry Newbold will be retiring as superintendent effective December 31, 2010. Has has valiantly led our district for the past 14 years and I wish my old elementary school principal the very best in his retirement.

What is shocking about last night is the timeline that the CURRENT Board of Education unveiled to select Dr. Newbold's replacement. The decision will be made on December 14, 2010 by the current Board without input of any new board members (there will be at least 2 new members and most likely 3 once I oust the current board president). It is completely inappropriate for a lame-duck board to make this decision - it is pure politics as usual in Jordan SD. The correct path would be for the current board to appoint an interim superintendent to lead the district while the search and appointment of the replacement is conducted by the Board of Education that is effective January 2011. Those elected to the board this fall (myself included) need to be involved in this process as we will be working with this selection for at least 2 years.

I ask you to please attend one of the 6 public hearings starting next week regarding this and each board meeting leading up to the selection. This isn't right - but it's not surprising considering the current membership on the board!

8 weeks until Election Day

Nathan Gedge for Jordan School District Board of Education Precinct 7

Eight weeks from today is Election Day!

We have spent the weekend posting campaign signs throughout Precinct 7 (Northeast West Jordan). Let us know if you'd like a campaign sign for your yard. This is what they look like:

And now for the big news!!!! Our campaign was recommended for endorsement by the Jordan Education Assoication Political Action Committee (PAC) late last week. Out of the three Jordan School Board races, we were fortunate enough to be the only race where there was an endoresment. This is a huge deal with the amount of members that JEA has and will go a long way in helping us win this election (in 8 weeks).

Lastly, I've spent a lot of time updating our website at http://www.nathangedge.com/ (don't forget to type the www.). I've added my September calendar of events and some new information, including our 2nd batch of campaign signs that will be here in two weeks (here is a sneak preview):

Peace and love and we hope that we can count on your vote this November 2nd. - Nate
